Documentary shots of people, cultures, landscapes, and more, from short and long journeys across the globe. Don’t expect perfectionism and postcard-like shots. To me travel photos should convey atmosphere and life, and as such they must be dirty sometimes. Or as John Simpson put it: “I’m not in favor of dirt, but I do like things to be normal, and normal is not beautifully swept and shiny.” So, some shots show rather edgy corners of the world, others are blurred or noisy. But that’s how life is. Sometimes you are out-of-focus or things go upside down – that’s no different anywhere on earth.
All around Sri Lanka
A series on fabulous Sri Lanka with a heavy focus on street and people photography.
East Africa: Rwanda, Uganda & Kenia Overland
So many memorable moments with smiling people, spectacular nature, poverty and slums, cruel history, and much, much more. Expect lots of street and wildlife photography.
The City That Never Sleeps
What an iconic city! I guess nothing describes the flair of the city better than Alicia Keys: “There’s nothin’ you can’t do, now you’re in New York. These streets will make you feel brand new, big lights will inspire you”.
From Ende to Jakarta
An Indonesian journey from a town called Ende on the island Flores all the way westwards to Jakarta. Think of volcanos, surreal landscapes, incredible people, and lots of street life.
Chicago – The Windy City
Chicago? Take a river through the heart of a city and a lake as large as a sea, and add awesome burgers, craft beer, skyscrapers and some wind.
Bolivia to Panama by Land and Sea
A journey from Bolivia via Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia to Panama. Expect the full range from astonishing mountains to pristine beaches, snow and desert, people and street scenes, and a 5-day sailing trip.
Oh man, Oman
Tenting all around the country. Mountain ranges, a lot of sand and desert, sparse landscapes, and lush valleys and gorges. And dromedaries, of course.

A long journey from the bustling capital of Thailand through Laos, China, Mongolia, Russia, The Baltic States, and Poland to Bavaria.
Thailand & Myanmar
Includes many trips from my temporary home base Bangkok to surrounding cities, islands, beaches, and temples. Plus a journey across Myanmar, a country like no other.

An intense mixture of hope, and fear, occupation and freedom. Rough landscapes, markets, and religion and military everywhere.
Georgia (not in the US…)
Sea, mountains, tenting, golden autumn. A dream for outdoor lovers.
Balkan Roadtrip
A trip through Croatia, magnificent Montenegro, and Serbia. From Coast to Snow in about an hour, beautiful lakes, mountains and valleys.

Several shorter trips to Andalusia, Tenerife, as well as Galicia and Asturia. Ranges from salty hair to ice-cold finger tips.
(Northern) Ireland
Landscapes, music, and heaps of Guinness.
Norway on Foot
12 days, 1 tent. Solitude.
For the sake of completeness, I also share some rather old shots taken without any photographic ambitions.
Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua
First time across the ocean, first time DSLR.
Southeast Asia, India, Nepal
6 months through Asia. Poor equipment and no photography experience at all make this set somewhat intimate.
Morocco
Still pre-DSLR times. Don’t expect high quality shots from this North African Gem.
Turkey
Another travel from long ago. Rudimentary photography skills and poor equipment meet an incredibly beautiful country.
